Increasing Awareness About Refugee and Immigrant Mental Wellness

By Imuetiyanosa Ikhinmwin

It's critical to acknowledge the particular mental health difficulties that immigrants and refugees encounter in our diverse community. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health Project offers insightful information on this topic. Even though they face many obstacles, recently arriving immigrants frequently enjoy better physical and mental health than people who were born in Canada. But before fleeing, a lot of migrants had to go through horrible situations and understanding the diversity of immigrants and refugees is essential. They provide their new communities with their distinct viewpoints, customs, and skills. Respect for one another and enrichment of culture are fostered by embracing variety. In society, there are still unfavorable preconceptions and stereotypes about immigrants and refugees. To dispel myths and advance inclusivity, activism and education are required.

International collaboration and solidarity are necessary to address the underlying causes of forced migration and displacement. Everyone gains from supporting laws that protect human rights, peace, and stability. We can create a society that is more inclusive and compassionate by raising awareness of the difficulties faced by immigrants and refugees. Together, as global citizens, let's strive for a more promising future for everybody.
